British Canoeing paddlesport instructor course at nene whitewater centre Northampton. Sept 21st & 22nd. The course is designed for those who wish to supervise groups in introductory taster sessions in paddlesport.

This ‘boat-based’ course encompasses both training and assessment and runs over 2 days. On each of the days, candidates should aim to arrive at 8:30am for a prompt 9:00 start. Finish time will be early evening. You must attend both days to gain certification.

The course cost is £195 plus there will be a need for you to become a member of British Canoeing  and then register for the course.

You will be assessed delivering sessions and completing rescues in your chosen craft (sit on top, stand up paddleboard, open canoe or general purpose kayak). Please note that you will need to show that you can rescue all of the different craft from your chosen craft. Please note for Paddlesport Instructor you will need to have FSRT in place when you apply for CR registration

(Please allow at least 2 weeks). You are also required to be a British Canoeing member to register for the course. You need to have the £45 membership for coaches and leaders. Membership details can be found on the BC web site https://www.britishcanoeing.org.uk/membership/membership-coaching

Ideally at this level, each candidate should have all their own personal  kit, this may include kayak / SUP/canoe and paddle, if this is not the case, then NCKC (Northampton canoe and kayak club) will be able to provide the items. 

You will need to provide your own packed lunch each day. Complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided. Full changing facilities are available at the Centre.

Course Pre-requisites

  • Be 14 years old or over

The following pre-requisites are also needed:

  • Register with your Home Nation Association and obtain a valid stamped CR Form
  • You will not be allowed to continue the course without this item
  • Candidates Learner Development Pack – this comes with your CR Registration. This item is crucial for being able to participate in the learning programme
  • Have completed the BC  Foundation Safety and Rescue Training
  • Can paddle your chosen craft to the level indicated in the course guide
