A brief history of our club
Our club was formed in 1968 as Kingsthorpe Canoe Club, and renamed two years later as Northampton Canoe Club.
It has moved its paddling base around the town over the years mainly operating from Midsummer Meadow.
In July 1999 we moved to the Nene Whitewater Centre. The club is predominantly but not exclusively a white water club.
We are lucky that we have the Nene Whitewater Centre as our base, providing consistently paddlable white water, as well as
a beautiful stretch of the river Nene for beginners and those who prefer placid water.
Beginners
We welcome beginners and run a range of sessions and courses for novice Kayakers and Canoeists. These start with come
and try it sessions and 1 star courses, through to 2 star, 3 star and 4 star courses for more experience paddlers.
We can even arrange courses for aspiring coaches.
The club has a stock of boats and equipment available to members, allowing new paddlers to develop their paddling before
needing to buy equipment. This includes equipment suitable for intermediate paddlers on the Nene Whitewater Course.
Trips
The club runs numerous river trips throughout the year, usually with campsite or bunk house accommodation. These trips
usually cater for paddlers of different abilities from 2 star level to expert white water paddlers. Once a year the club holds a
surf trip, along with other sea and tide race trips.
Events
Every Year we run our own slalom, and freestyle events along with an end of season party and other
and social evenings including Curry Nights, BBQ’s, 10 Pin Bowling and more.
